Almost 300 Refugees Return to Syria Over Past 24 Hours - Russian Military

Almost 300 Syrian refugees have returned to their homes in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus and Deir ez-Zor over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said on Monday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) Almost 300 Syrian refugees have returned to their homes in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus and Deir ez-Zor over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Settlement said on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 294 Syrian citizens returned to their homes in: Eastern Ghouta (Damascus province) - 19 people (7 women and 10 children) ... 275 people (101 women, 129 children) returned back to the places of permanent residence in Deir ez-Zor and Damascus provinces through the al-Salhiyah checkpoint," the center's bulletin read.

Syrian engineering units have cleared up six hectares of territory, six buildings and one kilometer (over 1.6 miles) of roads over the past 24 hours, the center added.

They found and defused 42 explosive devices, including four improvised explosive devices.

The center went on to say that the Russian Chechen Republic's Akhmad Kadyrov Fund has provided civilians living in Aleppo province with one tonne of bread over the past 24 hours. The all-Russian non-governmental organization of war conflicts' veterans Boyevoye Bratstvo (Brothers in Arms) has delivered 400 Russian language textbooks, as well as school supplies to Homs province, and 1,000 backpacks and 1,000 children clothing sets to Damascus province.

Having regained control over most of the country's territories that were seized by terrorists, Damascus is currently focused on creating favorable conditions for the repatriating refugees, the process in which Russia is also engaged.
