MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) Fifty-three percent of the French and 50 percent of the Germans believe that the media in their respective countries are not objective in their coverage of Russia, an IFOP poll for Sputnik showed Tuesday.
In the United Kingdom, 47 percent do not believe that their media outlets are impartial when covering Russian, while in the United States 43 percent doubt that the coverage of Russia by the US outlets is unbiased.
In France and Germany, the share of those who doubt local media coverage about Russia is larger among the younger population. In France, 58 percent of people under 35 doubt that media are unbiased about Russia. In Germany, 54 percent of the people under 35 think the media outlets are not impartial about Russia.
However, in the United Kingdom, only 38 percent of the people under 35 think local media outlets are not fair in their coverage of Russia; 34 percent of the US nationals under 35 doubt US media coverage of Russia is impartial.
The survey was carried out on August 9-20 among 4,033 people aged 18 and older.
In France, the pollster questioned 1,013 people; in the United Kingdom, 1,003 people; in Germany 1,010 people; in the United States, 1,007 people.
In May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Argentine's Clarin newspaper that it seemed as if "a certain part of the political elite in the West" disliked Russia's independent foreign policy, which led to attempts to shape "a negative image" of Russia in the media.
