MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th February, 2019) The parents of Dawn Sturgess, a woman from Amesbury believed to be poisoned with the same toxin that left Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal in coma for weeks, have blamed the UK government for her death, in an interview with The Guardian.
"I want justice from our own government. What are they hiding? I don't think they have given us all the facts. If anyone, I blame the government for putting Skripal in Salisbury," Stan Sturgess, the father, said.
Dawn and her boyfriend Charlie Rowley fell ill in their Amesbury home months after Skripal and his daughter were found slumped on a park bench in the nearby Salisbury. Rowley recovered, while Dawn died after a week on life support and was cremated.
The UK government has accused Russia of staging the attack on its former double agent who was swapped in a spy exchange back in 2010. Moscow has denied any role in the suspected murder attempt, in which London claims a highly-toxic nerve agent it calls Novichok was used.
Sturgess' parents said they did not hate Russia. Caroline Sturgess, the mother, added she did not take it personally, while Stan stressed that "if they'd targeted Dawn specifically, it would be different."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said as many as 60 information requests about the Skripal case had been filed with the Foreign Office. Russia has been seeking access to Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia who is a Russian citizen.
