Angolan President Joao Lourenco arrived in Moscow for an official visit on Tuesday, a Sputnik correspondent reported
The plane of the Angolan leader landed at the Moscow Vnukovo-2 airport at 16.25 local time (13.25 GMT). Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Angolan Ambassador in Russia Joaquim Augusto de Lemos welcomed Lourenco as he left the jet.
The Angolan president was greeted by a guard of honor and the anthems of the two countries were played.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Lourenco last July on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg. The Russian leader then noted the development of bilateral relations in the defense industry and other sectors, as well as active cooperation of the two countries in the field of politics and security at international platforms.
He also drew attention to promising projects that could contribute to the growth of bilateral trade.
In turn, Lourenco said that the Angolan leadership was committed to the economic development of the state and is counting on cooperation with Russia in this regard, noting the presence of Russian enterprises in the mining industry and expressing hope for the participation of Russian companies in other sectors.
In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks in Moscow with his Angolan counterpart Manuel Augusto. The ministers discussed the situation in Mali and the Sahara-Sahel region, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and agreed to continue developing investment, trade, economic, space and information technology cooperation.
