LONDON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Another two suspects were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee, who was shot dead while observing a riot in the city of Derry in April, 2019, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said in a statement.
"Detectives investigating the murder of journalist Lyra McKee on 18 April 2019 in Derry/Londonderry have arrested 2 men," the police force said.
The men, aged 24 and 29, have been detained under the Terrorism Act and will be interviewed later, the statement added.
McKee, aged 29, was shot dead on April 18, 2019 as she observed the riots taking place in the city of Derry, also known as Londonderry.
Following the incident, the New IRA, a dissident branch of now extinct Irish Republican Army, admitted their responsibility for her murder and apologized with the victim's family, but claimed that she was killed during an attack on "enemy forces".
Last week, the police charged two men with her murder and a third suspect with riot and possession and throwing of petrol bombs.
Another man named Paul McIntyre, 53, has already been charged in relation with the murder of McKee, who was regarded as one of the brightest talents in Northern Ireland journalism.
