CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th December, 2018) The Arab Parliament calls on the Council of the Arab League to reinstate Syria, seven years after suspension of its membership in the organization, the parliament said on Friday in a statement.
"The Arab Parliament called on the Arab League Council, all Arab organizations to start the work and coordination efforts on returning Syria to the Arab world," the statement said.
The Syrian membership in the Arab League was frozen in November 2011 due to the start of a civil war in the country.
Some Arab states also recalled their ambassadors from Syria.
The decision prevented Syria, which is one of the founders of the Arab League, from participating in activities of the organization. At the same time the Arab League has been excluded from the Syrian reconciliation process.
The Arab Parliament was established in 2005 and gained a status of a permanent organization in 2012. The body is aimed at forming the all-Arabic political course.
