Argentina Recognizes Venezuelan Opposition Leader Guaido As Interim President - Macri

MADRID (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) Argentina recognizes opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela, Argentine President Mauricio Macri said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Guaido sworn in as acting president surrounded by thousands of supporters at a rally in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. The Supreme Court of Venezuela said that all decisions that the opposition-controlled National Assembly might take would be considered invalid and called on the prosecutor's office to take the necessary measures against the lawmakers. Mexico and Russia have said that they continued to recognize the current Venezuelan government headed by Maduro.
"I want to express my support for the decision of the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaido, by recognizing him as interim president of this country," Macri wrote on Twitter.
Buenos Aires hopes that a free and transparent elections involving all leaders of the opposition will be held soon, the president underlined.
Guaido has already been recognized as Venezuelan president by Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and the United States, among others.
