BUENOS AIRES (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Argentine authorities still do not know whether the United Sates would build a building of a military base in Neuquen province, Foreign Minister of Argentina Jorge Faurie told Sputnik.
"I do not know whether the US Southern Command would construct the building. It is not a military operation, but the operation of civil defense forces. Neuquen province has reached an agreement with one of the US states to provide emergency response equipment. We are talking about equipment," Faurie said.
In July, reports emerged that Argentina's President Mauricio Macri green-lighted the creation of several US military bases on the territory of the country. According to the Mexican news portal Aristegui Noticias, at least three US bases could be established in Argentina's provinces of Neuquen, where Vaca Muerta shale gas field is located, Misiones and Tierra del Fuego, from where it is possible to control Antarctica. Their creation should be financed by the US Southern Command.
