Assange's Lawyer Says Plans To Sue Ecuador Top Diplomat For Asylum Process Details Reveal

The legal team of the founder of WikiLeaks whistleblowing site, Julian Assange, plans to file a lawsuit against Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Jose Valencia for making public confidential information about Assange's asylum and citizenship process, lawyer Carlos Poveda told Sputnik on Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th October, 2018) The legal team of the founder of WikiLeaks whistleblowing site, Julian Assange, plans to file a lawsuit against Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Jose Valencia for making public confidential information about Assange's asylum and citizenship process, lawyer Carlos Poveda told Sputnik on Thursday.

"In the next few days we start legal proceedings ... The proceedings will be against the Foreign Ministry and its legal representative, who is the foreign minister," the lawyer said.

Last month, based on the information received from the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, lawmaker Paola Vintimilla asked the government to strip the WikiLeaks founder of his Ecuadorian citizenship, citing irregularities in the way he received his citizenship, primarily that the procedure was established especially for him.

Ecuador announced in January that it had granted citizenship to Assange who has been holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for the last six years.
