Astana International Financial Center Plans to Develop Ties With Russian Firms - Governor

Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) plans to develop business ties with Russia's Siberia, Ural and Far East, with the center having already 130 members registered, AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov told Sputnik on the sidelines of the CERAWeek by IHS Markit energy conference, which is currently underway in the US city of Houston

HOUSTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th March, 2019) Astana International Financial Center (AIFC) plans to develop business ties with Russia's Siberia, Ural and Far East, with the center having already 130 members registered, AIFC Governor Kairat Kelimbetov told Sputnik on the sidelines of the CERAWeek by IHS Markit energy conference, which is currently underway in the US city of Houston.

"This year we plan to meet with business of Siberia, the Urals, the Far East, continue the roadshows in the post-Soviet space, and also hold meetings with potential investors ... To date, 130 companies from all over the world are registered with AIFC - these are businesses from Kazakhstan, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Central Asian countries, from Europe (Finland, Great Britain)," Kelimbetov said.

The list of the Russian companies, currently registered with AIFC, includes large banks and private companies, such as Lukoil, according to Kelimbetov.

"We are actively telling potential investors about the new platform where companies from the countries of the region - Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan and other countries - could attract international capital," Kelimbetov added.

Creation of the Astana International Financial Center was announced by Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev in 2015. The center was opened last year.
