At least five civilians were killed and 10 others were injured in an airstrike that hit Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, a local media reported on Monday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th May, 2019) At least five civilians were killed and 10 others were injured in an airstrike that hit Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, a local media reported on Monday.

Helmand residents said the airstrike was conducted in Zanbali village in Nahre Saraj district late on Sunday, according to the TOLOnews broadcaster.

They added that the area had been under control of the Taliban group for the past three years, the broadcaster reported.

Afghanistan has long been destabilized by the conflict between the Taliban and the Afghan government, exacerbated by the activities of various terrorist groups, including the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia).

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) documented 3,804 civilian deaths in the Afghan conflict last year.
