At least five people were injured in the self-proclaimed Donetsk Peoples Republic (DPR) as a result of shelling carried out by the Ukrainian troops over the past week, a representative of the DPR Ombudsman's Office told reporters on Friday.
DONETSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) At least five people were injured in the self-proclaimed Donetsk Peoples Republic (DPR) as a result of shelling carried out by the Ukrainian troops over the past week, a representative of the DPR Ombudsman's Office told reporters on Friday.
"On August 10-16, five people, including four servicemen, were injured as a result of Ukraine's armed aggression on the territory of the Donetsk Peoples Republic," the representative said.
According to the DPR Ombudsman's Office, at least 106 people were killed and over 220 others were wounded on DPR territory since the beginning of the year, while the total number of the conflict's victims in DPR since 2014 amounts to 4,673, including 78 children.
The conflict in Donbas started in 2014, when Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics that refused to recognize the new government in Kiev that came to power after what they considered to be a coup. The conflicting sides signed the Minsk peace accords in February 2015 to end the fighting in the crisis-torn region, but the situation has remained tense, with both parties accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
