At Least 5,000 Police Officers to Provide Security During SCO Summit in Bishkek - Official

BISHKEK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 11th June, 2019) At least 5,000 police officers will provide security during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit that will take place in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek from June 13-14, Kyrgyz Deputy Interior Minister Almaz Orozaliyev said on Tuesday.

"More than 5,000 police officers will be deployed [in Bishkek] to ensure safety during the summit, "the deputy minister said at a press conference.

He added that the officers will be guarding the venues of the SCO events as well as places where the delegations to the summit will be staying, according to the official.

The SCO was established back in 2001. It was founded by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In 2017, India and Pakistan officially joined the bloc.

The organization's main aims are strengthening mutual trust; effective cooperation in politics and economy; and maintaining peace and stability in the region.
