At least 6 members of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured after Maoists detonated an improvised explosive device in the country's central state of Chhattisgarh, local media reported Monday citing officials
The attack was carried out in the district of Dantewada, when the CRPF officers were on road security duty, according to the Indo-Asian news Service.
Those injured were taken to hospital.
The Maoists have been fighting against the Indian government since the 1960s. The movement is currently operating in a number of the country's central and eastern states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and others. The Maoists are far-left radical communists, who support the Maoist ideology and conduct guerrilla warfare while hiding in some of India's densest forests, targeting security forces and government officials.
