Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said Thursday he was hoping for a Brexit deal as a more realistic scenario than the absence of a deal.
VIENNA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said Thursday he was hoping for a Brexit deal as a more realistic scenario than the absence of a deal.
"I think there is no point discussing the no deal scenario at the moment. I hope reaching a deal is a more realistic scenario," Kurz said at a press conference after an informal EU summit in Austria's Salzburg.
The Austrian chancellor stressed that the negotiators should not aim for a no deal Brexit, and a hard Brexit should be avoided.
At the same time, Kurz added that the European Union was ready for all scenarios.
European Council President Donald Tusk said that the United Kingdom's plan, the so-called Chequers proposal, was unacceptable. French President Emmanuel Macron also called the plan unacceptable, especially its economic aspects, and expressed hope that there would be new proposals in October.
