Austrian Chancellor's Party Leading EU Parliament Elections With Record-Breaking 35.4%

VIENNA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 27th May, 2019) The Austrian People's Party (APP) led by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is leading in the country's European Parliament elections with 35.4 percent of votes, a record for the party for these elections, preliminary results showed, as cited by Austrian Interior Minister Eckart Ratz.
According to the preliminary results, Kurz's party will receive seven seats in the European Parliament.
The Social Democratic Party of Austria is coming second with 23.6 percent, which will guarantee the party five seats in the European Parliament, while the Austria's Freedom Party, which has been in recent weeks embroiled in a political scandal, received 18.1 percent of the vote, giving it three seats in the EU parliament.
Following the top three parties are the Green Party with 13 percent of the vote, giving it two seats in the European legislature and the liberal NEOS party with 8.1 percent of the vote and one seat.
