President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka said on Wednesday that the relations between Austria and Russia were developing positively and had prospects for further improvement.
"The bilateral relations have been recently developing very positively ... We have opportunities for further development and we will use them," Sobotka said at a meeting with Russian parliament's lower house speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
The Austrian official also pointed out the need for cooperation between the both countries' parliaments on economic and cultural issues.
Volodin said that the bilateral trade between Russia and Austria had recently increased.
"The basis for development of our relations within the parliamentary dimension is positive: the trade between our countries is growing.
Over the past year, it [the trade] has grown by 40%, the number of tourists visiting both Russia and Austria is growing. This indicates serious trends because people choose a country that is interesting for them and that can ensure a safe stay in this country," Volodin noted.
He expressed hope that Sobotka's visit to Russia would give a fresh impetus to the development of relations between the country's parliaments.
"Hopefully, your visit will boost development of the inter-parliamentary ties and make everything so that we could discuss the issues linked to the development of our relations at the parliamentary level," Volodin added.
The meeting between Sobotka and Volodin was held as part of Sobotka's three-day visit to Russia.
