Azerbaijan Interested In New Arms Purchases From Russia - President To Sputnik

Azerbaijan is interested in new arms' purchases from Russia and is in the process of finalizing the existing contracts, President Ilham Aliyev told Sputnik on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos

DAVOS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Azerbaijan is interested in new arms' purchases from Russia and is in the process of finalizing the existing contracts, President Ilham Aliyev told Sputnik on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"We are certainly interested in it [new arms deals], Russia is one of major suppliers of modern and safe military equipment, and we have full access to it," he said, when asked if Azerbaijan was interested in concluding new contracts on arms purchases from Russia.

The president stressed that Azerbaijan was "one of the major buyers of Russian weaponry.

"

"This process is permanent ... Some contacts that were signed in previous years are still in the process of implementation, meaning that we have not received everything yet, but we have received the most part. That is why it was stated by both sides recently that both sides are hoping to continue this partnership. As for nomenclature of the military equipment, it will be coordinated by the corresponding bodies," Aliyev said.
