Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told Sputnik that he had agreed on Wednesday with acting Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan to hold the next meeting on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would be held in February
On Wednesday, Mammadyarov and Mnatsakanyan held a meeting in Paris mediated by co-chairs of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) Minsk Group and attended by Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk.
"Our discussion has lasted for four hours. That was a very useful and positive exchange of opinions aimed at establishment of mutual understanding and trust.
The parties agreed to continue the negotiations next month. During the talks, the parties discussed a number of issues, including preparing both sides' population for peace, security and sustainable regional development," Mammadyarov said.
Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani region with a predominantly Armenian population, proclaimed its independence in 1991, prompting a still ongoing military conflict. In early April 2016, tensions between Azerbaijani and Nagorno-Karabakh forces escalated, resulting in multiple casualties. Sporadic clashes continue even though the sides promptly agreed to cease hostilities.
