Bavarian Leader Says Coalition of Conservatives With Free Voters Party Most Obvious Option

Bavarian Minister President Markus Soeder said that after the recent election, the creation of the coalition government between his Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Free Voters party seemed to be the most obvious option.

MUNICH (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) Bavarian Minister President Markus Soeder said that after the recent election, the creation of the coalition government between his Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Free Voters party seemed to be the most obvious option.

On Sunday, Bavaria held parliamentary election, CSU, the sister party of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats, won the election with 37.2 percent of votes and thus will get 85 out of the Landtag's 205 seats and lose its ultimate authority in the region as well as the ability to independently form a coalition.

"We must obtain the results rapidly. Therefore, there will be negotiations with the relevant forces.

At the moment, the most obvious is an alliance with the Free Voters party. But firstly, we need to talk to them, then we will see," Soeder told reporters, adding that the most important goal for him was a stable government in Bavaria.

According to election results, CSU is trailed by the Greens with 17.5 percent (38 seats), the Free Voters party with 11.6 percent (27 seats), the far-rights anti-migrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 10.2 percent (22 seats), the Social Democratic Party of Germany with 9.7 percent (22 seats) and the Free Democratic Party 5.1 percent (11 seats).
