BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 02nd December, 2018) Beijing supports US-North Korean plans to hold another bilateral summit next year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, following the talks between Chinese and US leaders on the G20 sidelines on Saturday.
The statement also comes after the Reuters news agency reported earlier in the day that US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he was likely to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in January or February. Prior to that, Trump said that he can meet with the North Korean leader "sometime early next year.
"
"The parties exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The Chinese side supports the next meeting between the leaders of the United States and North Korea," Wang said a press conference, as quoted by the CCTV channel.
He expressed hope that the sides would meet each other halfway, and promote the denuclearization process on the Korea peninsula.
According to Wang, the US side expressed readiness to maintain close contact with Beijing on the issue.
