BERLIN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th May, 2021) The relevant bodies of Germany and Russia have exchanged information about the World War II WWII Zhestyanaya Gorka massacre in today's Novgorod Region, Russia, and Berlin found no data about any alive perpetrator, a German prosecutor in charge of investigating the Nazi-era crimes told Sputnik.
"The Russian Investigative Committee has sent us via the Public Prosecutor General multiple documents about a series of crimes in Zhestyanaya Gorka but do not contain any new information and people who may be still alive.
We have also sent to Moscow documents we have," the prosecutor said.
In October, a Russian court made legal history by recognizing mass killings of civilians by Nazis in the village of Zhestyanaya Gorka as genocide. Mass killings took place in 1942. According to the prosecutors, as least 2,600 civilians were killed. Last spring, excavation amateurs discovered remains of more than 500 bodies both adults and children at the site.
