WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd September, 2021) The Biden administration is looking for a contractor to operate a Federal migrant detention center at Guantanamo Bay in the coming months, the Department of Homeland Security said in a description of the job post.
"US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has a continuing need to contract for services to provide unarmed custody and security officers to provide guard/security services at the Migrant Operations Center (MOC) at the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB), Cuba," DHS said in the job post last week.
The US migrant detention center can currently house 120 people, but the administration wants a contractor that would be able to immediately erect temporary housing facilities to accommodate up to 400 migrants, according to the job post.
At least 50 individuals must operate the migrant detention facility and at least 10 percent of the staff must be fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole.
DHS posted the requirement as the Biden administration was forced to deal with up to 16,000 migrants, mostly Haitians, that arrived in the Texas border town of Del Rio last week.
