WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th May, 2021) President Joe Biden has renewed the seven-year-old US declaration of national emergency on the continuing chaos in the Central African Republic car), the White House announced.
"The situation in ... the Central African Republic continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States," Biden said in a notice on Thursday. "For this reason, the emergency declared in Executive Order 13667 on May 12, 2014, to deal with that threat must continue in effect beyond May 12, 2021.
"
Former President Barack Obama first declared the emergency to deal with the breakdown of law and order in the Central African Republic, the White House notice said.
Since then, this condition has continued, characterized by "intersectarian tension, widespread violence and atrocities, and the pervasive, often forced recruitment and use of child soldiers, which threatens the peace, security, or stability of the Central African Republic and neighboring states," the notice said.
The renewed state of emergency will continue for at least one more year, the White House added.
