An explosion occurred in Damascus as the Syrian army was destroying an underground tunnel used by militants between Jobar and Zamalke suburbs in the east of the Syrian capital, a source in the country's security forces told Sputnik on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, a Sputnik correspondent reported that a blast the reasons for which were not known took place in Damascus.
"The blast, which was heard in Damascus, was the result of the army exploding a tunnel between Jobar and Zamalke," the source said.
Syria has been torn by civil war since 2011, with the government fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations.
