Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro said on Wednesday that the decision of the country's Foreign Ministry to call off the invitation to Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel for his inauguration in Brazil was the right one.
Bolsonaro will be sworn in on January 1. Last week, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it has recalled the invitation to Diaz-Canel as well as to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
"The state newspaper Granma, the only newspaper in Cuba, has released a material criticizing the future government [of Brazil].
Within the framework of the 'Sao Paulo Forum', Cuba has benefited from the billions of reals [Brazil's currency] received from the Brazilian taxpayers ... The decision not to invite the dictator of this country was right, " Bolsonaro wrote on Twitter.
Bolsonaro, who represents the right-wing Social Liberal Party, secured a four-year presidential term by winning the October election.
