Brazil Ties With Russia, BRICS to Continue Growing After Election- Russia Commerce Chamber

Russia has no doubts that Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro will continue developing economic ties with Moscow and the work within BRICS, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Padalko told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 29th October, 2018) Russia has no doubts that Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro will continue developing economic ties with Moscow and the work within BRICS, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Padalko told Sputnik.

Earlier in the day, Brazilian Superior Electoral Court said that Bolsonaro from the right-wing Social Liberal Party has won the race after receiving 55 percent of votes with 99 percent of ballots counted. Fernando Haddad from the leftist Workers' Party came second with 45 percent, according to the election results.

"Based on the information the Chamber of Commerce posses about this leader and the views he promotes, [the chamber can say] that the common sense will prevail. We do not thing that [Bolsonaro's victory] will some how lead to aggravation of the Russia-Brazil relations or some changes within BRICS, because BRICS is the association of the highest international class .

.. We have no doubt that the continuity in the affairs of BRICS will continue in the economy and trade," Padalko said.

Speaking about the bilateral economic relations Padalko noted that today's turnover is not at the highest level, though it is gradually growing. Energy, agriculture and science are among the most promising areas for cooperation according to the official.

Bolsonaro is known for his populist rhetoric. He has spoken in favor of paying women less, loosening guns control and called US President Donald Trump his inspiration.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is looking forward to continuing cooperation with Brazil after the election of the new president.
