MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Brexit transition period can be extended once for a limited period of time under a separate agreement, EU chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said on Wednesday.
The UK and EU negotiators agreed the draft "divorce" deal in Brussels on Tuesday. It defines parameters of UK's departure on March 29, 2019.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May announced earlier in the day that the UK government approved the document.
"We have agreed on the transition period ... for a period of 21 months from March 30 to December 31, 2020 we have agreed to preserve the current situation with respect to the internal market, customs union and with respect to European policies, rights and obligations to go along with that ... We have the possibility of extending this once for a limited period by joint agreement," Barnier said.
