WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) Brussels is considering undertaking particular steps with respect to the triggering of the Iran nuclear agreement's dispute resolution mechanism, German Ambassador to the United States Emily Haber told Sputnik on Wednesday.
When asked about what will be the particular steps undertaken by three European Union countries - Germany, France and the United Kingdom - that triggered the nuclear agreement's dispute resolution mechanism, Haber said, "That will be decided in Brussels."
"The process is underway," Haber added.
Earlier in January, Iran said to have made the last significant reduction in its compliance with the nuclear agreement, which is formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). However, Iran also said it remained ready to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency and would return to full compliance under the nuclear agreement if the sanctions against Tehran were lifted.
In response to Iran's move, Germany, France and the United Kingdom said they were triggering the nuclear agreement's dispute resolution mechanism.
"It's just the dispute resolution mechanism that we triggered with the intention to solve the problems and disputes at stake, that's the intention," Haber said.
The JCPOA was signed by Iran, the United States, Russia, China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The deal stipulates that Iran must scale back the country's nuclear program and uranium reserves in return for gradual sanctions relief.
In May 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement and re-imposed economic sanctions on Iran.
