Bulgarian Prime Minister, US Deputy Secretary Of State Discuss Security, Energy -Statement

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th December, 2018) Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov on Saturday held a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, during which the two officials discussed issues related to bilateral relations, energy, security and investment, Bulgaria's Government Information Service said in a statement.
During the meeting Borissov in particular stressed that Bulgaria was fully fulfilling its commitments to NATO, adding that the country would increase its defense spending to 2 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2024.
In turn, Sullivan called Bulgaria "a stable partner" and handed Borissov a message from US President Donald Trump, who stressed importance of Washington-Sofia friendly relations.
During his visit, Sullivan also held talks with Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva. According to Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of State Robert Palladino, Sullivan stressed that it was important for Bulgaria to expand its energy security. He also spoke in favor of Sofia's buying US arms within the modernization of Bulgarian armed forces.
