WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The US State of California filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its decision to cancel a nearly $1 billion funding contract for the state's high-speed rail project, local media reported.
The state in the lawsuit argued that US President Donald Trump's move to block the project was politically motivated and improper, the San Francisco Examiner said on Tuesday, citing a statement from California Governor Gavin Newsom's office.
The Trump administration said the $928 million project is being canceled due to lack of progress in building a track through the Central Valley agricultural heartland and lack of faith California will meet the 2022 deadline.
The state will also request a court order to prevent reallocation of funding, the report added.
Newsom has claimed that the decision is political retribution for California's resistance to Trump's immigration policies.
