Canada Post workers went on a rotating strike Monday, affecting mail deliveries in four cities after nearly one year of stalled contract negotiations.
Ottawa, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Oct, 2018 ) :Canada Post workers went on a rotating strike Monday, affecting mail deliveries in four cities after nearly one year of stalled contract negotiations.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) said the cities of Victoria, Edmonton, Windsor and Halifax would be impacted in the first round of disruptions.
"Our goal has always been a negotiated settlement but we will not agree to anything that doesn't address health and safety, gender equality and good, full-time middle-class jobs," union president Mike Palecek said in a statement.
Its key demands include hiring of more staff to meet a 30 percent increase in parcel deliveries -- expected to rise further with online cannabis orders -- as well as an end to forced overtime and pay equity for rural carriers.
The post office did not immediately comment, but Labour Minister Patty Hajdu urged both sides to return to the collective bargaining process.
