WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th December, 2018) A judge in Canada has granted Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou a $10 million Canadian Dollar ($7.5 million US Dollars) bail after her arrest at the request of the United States for charges over failing to comply with US sanctions against Iran, media reported.
Under bail agreement conditions, Meng will surrender her passports, wear a tracking device and be escorted by security detail when she leaves her residence, CNBC news reported on Tuesday.
The United States had initially asked the court in Vancouver to deny bail for Meng calling her a flight risk, the report said.
On December 1, Canadian authorities arrested Meng at the request of the United States. She was detained in Vancouver on suspicion of failing to comply with US sanctions against Iran.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on Ottawa to immediately release Meng. Huawei, in its turn, said it was unaware of any wrongdoing on the part of its chief financial officer.
On Monday, during the second day of Meng's bail hearing in a Canadian court, her lawyers argued that she had to be released before extradition due to her poor health and strong ties with the city of Vancouver.
