BEIRUT (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) A car bomb exploded at a checkpoint of Kurdish militia in the Syrian province of Al Hasakah during the passage of a military patrol vehicle belonging of the US-led coalition, media reported on Monday.

The blast has left several people injured, according the Lebanese Al Mayadeen broadcaster.

Since 2014, the US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) in Syria and Iraq.

The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.

In December, US President Donald Trump announced that his country would withdraw its forces from Syria because the IS had been defeated. Washington, however, said that it would not publicly disclose a time line for withdrawing its troops, and pledged that the US-led international coalition's fight against terrorism would continue.
