MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) The Venezuelan government will fund the construction of the Russian service center for repairs and maintenance of helicopters in the country, Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Carlos Tortosa told Sputnik in an interview released on Monday.
In late August, Director General of Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheev announced that the service center would open in Venezuela in 2018.
"The Venezuelan government," Tortosa said when asked who would pay for the center's construction.
He added that he did not know either the service center's opening date or the price of the construction.
"I do not know the exact dates. The sum is not discussed openly but it is a part of investment that was made under [former Venezuelan President Hugo] commander Chavez," the diplomat said.
According to the ambassador, military cooperation between the two countries has been at a very high level ever since Chavez, faced with restrictions on the part of the United States, decided to engage in intensive cooperation with Russia and China.
