CENTCOM Confirms Manbij Blast Killed 2 US Troops, 2 Other Pentagon Personnel

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Two US soldiers, one Defense Department civilian and one contractor were killed in an explosion in the Syrian city of Manbij earlier today, Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Two US service members, one Department of Defense (DoD) civilian and one contractor supporting DoD were killed and three service members were injured while conducting a local engagement in Manbij, Syria, Jan. 16, 2019," the release said.

The Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) claimed responsibility for the blast. Turkish authorities said the attack killed some 27 people overall.
