KABUL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th May, 2019) Head of Taliban's Political Office in Qatar and co-founder of the movement Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has held a meeting with German Special Representative for Afghanistan Markus Potzel in the Qatari capital of Doha, spokesman for the Taliban office Muhammad Sohail Shaheen said in a statement.
"Both sides discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, various aspects of a peaceful resolution to the Afghan issue and efforts of Germany in this regard," the statement said, adding that the meeting took place on Saturday.
The German diplomat also stressed the need to maintain regular contact with the Taliban political office, the statement added.
Earlier in May, Doha hosted the sixth round of peace talks between the Taliban and the United States, which has been supporting Kabul in its fight against Taliban militants for years. The two sides have been unable to reach a peace deal so far.
