BEIJING (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi have expressed the two countries' readiness to maintain high-level contacts with each other and develop cooperation in such areas as nuclear energy, innovation and investment.
On Wednesday, Macron and Wang, who arrived in France for a visit, held a meeting at the Elysee Palace.
"France attaches great importance to bilateral relations with China and hopes that the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Paris will be a good reason for maintaining close high-level contacts, as well as deepening cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres, and in the field of nuclear energy and aviation as well," Macron was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Macron also noted that France was ready to boost its cooperation with China on international issues and help Beijing defend the multilateral approach to relations between countries.
Wang, in turn, confirmed China's readiness to maintain high-level contacts with France and strengthen cooperation in nuclear energy and innovation and in the framework of Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative, which envisages closer cooperation among Eurasian countries.
"As part of its openness policy, China will open up more and more [to foreign countries] and is ready to provide good conditions for foreign enterprises investors, including French ones," Wang added.
The Chinese foreign minister also stressed that Beijing was also ready to strengthen cooperation with France on the fight against climate change.
