China Hopes Positive Dynamics On Korean Peninsula To Prevail Despite North's Weapon Test

China expects the positive trends recently observed on the Korean Peninsula to continue despite North Korean's recent test of a new tactical weapon, the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, said Friday.
"I have just seen the relevant report and I am not aware of the specific situation. Just as we have noted, over a period of time, with the concerted efforts of all relevant parties, the situation on the Korean Peninsula has witnessed some positive changes. We hope that the positive momentum on the Peninsula can be sustained," Hua said at a briefing.
On Friday, the North Korean state-run Korean Central Broadcasting Station announced that Pyongyang had successfully tested a state-of-the-art tactical weapon under the supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This was North Korea's first official weapons test in a year.
The test was done amid efforts by Pyongyang and Washington to maintain negotiations over denuclearization following a historic summit held between Kim and US President Donald Trump in June.
