China intends to continue to provide assistance and support to the countries of Oceania, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang said Tuesday.
"China, within its own capabilities, will continue to provide support and assistance to the countries of Oceania for the development of their economy and improvement of living conditions of the population. We also intend to cooperate and coordinate [approaches] on regional and international issues with the countries of Oceania," Zheng told a briefing.
He stressed that cooperation between China and Oceania as well as Beijing's aid helped to reduce unemployment in the region's countries, and to overcome development difficulties.
"China and countries in Oceania are now the developing Asia-Pacific countries, as well as good friends and partners seeking common development. We are ready to work together with countries of Oceania that have diplomatic relations with China in order to take advantage of all the new opportunities to strengthen mutual trust, expand cooperation, and deepen friendship," Zheng said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to visit Papua New Guinea, Brunei, and the Philippines on November 15-21, and to attend the 26th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Port Moresby on Saturday and Sunday.
