INCHEON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jun, 2018 ) :A local court on Wednesday sentenced the captain of a Chinese fishing boat to one year and six months in prison for operating illegally in South Korea's western territorial waters in April.
The Incheon District Court also ordered the 41-year-old man to pay a penalty of 20 million won (around US$18,100).
Prosecutors charged that his fishing boat crossed the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de facto inter-Korean maritime border, in waters 22 kilometers east of the border island of Yeonpyeong on April 20-21.
On April 21, South Korea's Coast Guard seized the boat, which had ignored its order to hold up and attempted to flee to the North Korean side. The Chinese fishing vessel left the port of Donggang in China's Liaoning Province with four other fishing boats 10 days prior to the intrusion into the NLL.
