China's Foreign Ministry on Friday told Sputnik that it was concerned over arrest of a Chinese national, reportedly one of directors of the Polish office of Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei, by the Polish authorities on suspicion of spying
Earlier in the day, media reported that the Polish Internal Security Agency (ISA) had arrested on Tuesday a Chinese citizen and a Polish national, both suspected of espionage on behalf of Beijing. The Pole reportedly is working for Orange, one of the leading communications provider in Poland, but prior to that he was a high-ranking employee at the ISA.
"The Chinese side is deeply concerned over the situation. We urge the relevant country to resolve the issue in accordance with the law, to guarantee the legal rights of the person involved," the ministry's statement, obtained by Sputnik, read.
The suspects refuted allegations and refused to give testimony. They may face up to 10 years of imprisonment, according to media reports.
