MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th March, 2019) Two children have been killed and one adult has been injured as a result of a clash between the Afghan security forces and Taliban militants in the western Afghan province of Herat, local media reported on Monday, citing officials.
A spokesperson for the provincial governor said that the clash had taken place in southern Shindand district on Sunday, adding that the victims were related: the killed children were brothers and the injured man was their father, the TOLOnews broadcaster reported.
The official noted that that it was unknown whether the boys were killed by the Taliban's and the Afghan forces' fire, the broadcaster added.
Fierce clashes between the Afghan government forces and Taliban insurgents are not uncommon in the country, which has been torn by conflicts since the late 1970s, including with the involvement of foreign forces.
The Taliban remains one of the key opponents of NATO-backed Kabul, which carries out regular anti-terrorist raids against the insurgents.
