MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th September, 2018) About 20 Conservative Party UK lawmakers are planning to vote against the government proposal to allow fracking companies to do exploratory drilling, local media reported Thursday.
On Wednesday, UK shale gas company Cuadrilla announced that the government had approved the work at the second well at its site in northwestern England and said it would start fracking at two wells in a few weeks.
The members of the ruling party intend to vote against the government proposal to carry out the drilling without the planning permission, if the government tries to get the parliament's approval next year, The Times newspaper reported.
The rebel Conservatives would thus join the Labor Party strongly opposed to fracking.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, was suspended in the United Kingdom in 2011 after two minor earthquakes were triggered by the process.
