WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) The US court may release on bond Russian national Bogdana Osipova, detained in the United States on charges of kidnapping her own children, upon her daughters' arrival in the United States, Osipova's lawyer Alexey Tarasov told Sputnik.
"The next step would be to make sure that her children come back to the United States, at which point there will be a detention hearing in the course of which a suspension likely will be made to release Ms. Osipova on bond," Tarasov said on Friday.
The lawyer said a jury trial is set to begin on December 4.
"However, in the event that Ms. Osipova brings her children back to the United States the trial likely will not happen," he said.
Next week the Russian court in the city of Kaliningrad should consider the request for lifting the access ban that currently prevents Osipova's children from travelling outside of Russia, Tarasov said,
"That hearing was postponed purportedly because Russian judge was sick.
We are hopeful that it will take place next week and the access ban will be lifted," he said.
Osipova faces 83 years in prison and up to $1.25 million in fines. She is known in the United States by her married name Bogdana Mobley. Initially, US prosecutors charged her with internationally kidnapping her two daughters after her husband, Brian Mobley, filed for divorce and was granted full custody of the children. Osipova became a naturalized US citizen in 2004 and went to Russia ten years later while pregnant with her third child.
