Crimean Delegation Brings Proposals on Supplies of Goods to Syria - Aksyonov

The delegation from Russia's Crimea that is currently paying an official visit to Damascus has brought proposals from local companies on supplies of industrial and agricultural products to Syria, head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said on Monday.

DAMASCUS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) The delegation from Russia's Crimea that is currently paying an official visit to Damascus has brought proposals from local companies on supplies of industrial and agricultural products to Syria, head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov said on Monday.

The delegation led by Aksyonov arrived in Damascus earlier on Monday for a two-day visit. The sides are expected to hold talks and sign a number of agreements on cooperation in the spheres of economy and technology.

"During the YIEF [Yalta International Economic Forum], we held talks on the possibility of supplying goods produced by a number of Crimean enterprises to Syria ... We have specific proposals on supplies of rye and wheat flour from the Crimean republic to SAR," Aksyonov told journalists, adding that there were also proposals from industrial companies, producing pipes, electrical equipment and railroad switches.

Aksyonov also said that it was the first visit of a Crimean delegation to Syria, noting that the delegation was invited by Damascus and the program of the visit was coordinated with the Russian Foreign and Defense Ministries.

In turn, he invited the Syrian delegation to the next YIEF set for April 2019.

"I invite our Syrian counterparts to attend the 5th Yalta International Economic Forum, which will take place in April 2019. I have no doubt that ... our cooperation is just beginning. We are waiting for our friends in Crimea," Aksyonov wrote on Facebook.

Crimea's head also wished victory to the Syrian people in the ongoing conflict the country had been engulfed in since 2011.

"We have no doubt that the Syrian people, under the leadership of their President Bashar Assad and with the support of Russia and our President Vladimir Putin, will prevail in an armed conflict that has been exhausting the country for years," Aksyonov added.

In April, a delegation from Syria paid their first visit to Crimea and participated in the Yalta International Economic Forum. During the forum, Crimea signed a memorandum with the Syrian province of Latakia, envisaging the two sides' intent to develop trade and economic cooperation and friendly relations.
