Russian investigators have opened two criminal investigations into the 2018 attacks on the staff of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine, the spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee said on Wednesday
In May, anti-Russian activists attacked Konstantin Vorobiev, the director of the Russian Center of Science and Culture and counselor at the Russian Embassy in Ukraine. In November, unidentified individuals set fire to a vehicle belonging to an employee of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine.
"The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee opened two criminal cases in connection to the attacks in Kiev in 2018, which caused damage to the property of the Russian Embassy and harmed a diplomat.
The delayed adoption of these procedural decisions is related to our need to obtain relevant information for the investigation and collect additional information," Svetlana Petrenko said.
Russian diplomatic missions and cultural organizations have repeatedly come under attack in Ukraine.
In February, some 30 extremists from various organizations broke into the Russian Center for Science and Culture, which belongs to the Russian foreign cooperation agency Rossotrudnichestvo, demanding an end to its operation in Ukraine. They inflicted significant damage and threatened the employees and guests with physical violence. Shortly thereafter, members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists pelted the center's building with stones and eggs.
