Current Pace Of Action To Attain Only 50% Of Sustainable Development Goals - Guterres
ADDIS ABABA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th February, 2019) UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned on Sunday that the current efforts to reach UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will mean that only half of the necessary work to achieve them will be completed by the deadline set for 2030.
"The world is not doing enough ... on the promise of making sustainable development a reality.
At this rate, we are only going to achieve 50 percent of the work that we have set for ourselves," Guterres said at an opening ceremony of the African Union 32nd summit.
In 2015, the UN members adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals covering social, economic, and environmental issues. The goals aim to protect the planet and ensure prosperity for everyone. The UN countries set the deadline for 2030 to achieve these goals.
