Damascus Slams Saudi $100Mln Pledge to US-Led Coalition for Syria 'Stabilization' -Reports

The Syrian Foreign Ministry criticized the decision of Saudi Arabia to allocate $100 million to the international coalition led by the United States for "stabilization efforts" in the northeast of Syria, local media reported Friday citing a diplomatic source.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) The Syrian Foreign Ministry criticized the decision of Saudi Arabia to allocate $100 million to the international coalition led by the United States for "stabilization efforts" in the northeast of Syria, local media reported Friday citing a diplomatic source.

Saudi Arabia has reportedly pledged to provide $100 million to the US-led coalition for stabilization and recovery efforts in northeastern Syrias regions liberated from the Islamist State terrorist groups (IS, banned in Russia) control.

"[This is] a covert attempt to prolong the crisis in Syria and to support those who threaten its territory and people .

.. Syria condemns this vile policy of the Saudi regime and demands to end it," the source said as quoted by the Syrian state news agency SANA.

The source from the Syrian Foreign Ministry also urged all countries to withdraw from the US-led coalition, which "serves only terrorists and threatens peace and security in the region."

The US-led coalition of more than 70 members is conducting military operations against the IS in Iraq and Syria. The coalition's strikes in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad or the United Nations Security Council.
