SIMFEROPOL (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th June, 2019) A delegation of European civil society activists arrived in Simferopol on Friday to get first-hand experience of Crimea, the head of the local parliamentary committee for foreign relations said.
"The delegation is on a study visit to Crimea. It's made up of 14 people from Luxembourg, France and Belgium. They are civil society members, knowledge workers and an official," Yuri Gempel told Sputnik.
Soon after arriving at the peninsula, the delegation went to the eastern port city of Kerch to see the Crimean Bridge to mainland Russia and meet those who built it. They will later meet with Crimean legislators and members of ethnic minorities.
Crimean authorities have welcomed several foreign delegations to the peninsula since it split from Ukraine to rejoin Russia after a coup in Kiev in 2014. Ukraine cut rail traffic connection soon afterwards. A road-rail bridge across the Kerch Strait was built last year.
